British media reported on Saturday that Labour’s Sadiq Khan is poised to secure a third term as Mayor of London in the ongoing elections.
While results are still being tallied, initial indications suggest that Khan has surpassed his Conservative rival, Susan Hall, with significant swings in various boroughs.
If confirmed, Khan will have fended off a lackluster and divisive challenge from Hall, solidifying his position as the frontrunner. Khan, who first assumed office as Mayor of London in 2016, emerged as a prominent voice against Brexit shortly after his election.
Hailing from Tooting, South London, Khan comes from a British Pakistani background and initially practiced law before transitioning into politics as a Member of Parliament. Throughout his tenure, Khan has been vocal both online and in interviews, particularly in his exchanges with President Donald Trump.
Having secured re-election in May 2021, Khan faced off against Hall, who was officially nominated as the Conservative Party candidate for the Mayor of London election at the Battle of Britain Bunker in Uxbridge, London, on July 19, 2023.
