Karachi: Armed robbers looted Rs6.5 million during a robbery at an Edhi Centre in Karachi’s Sohrab Goth area, police said.
According to an Edhi spokesperson, the cash had been withdrawn from a bank to pay employees’ salaries. Four armed suspects, travelling on two motorcycles, intercepted the staff and fled with Rs6.5 million.
Police said they were gathering preliminary statements from the employees. According to the initial accounts, all four suspects were wearing helmets at the time of the robbery.
Investigators are obtaining CCTV footage from the area, and an investigation is under way to identify and apprehend the suspects.
Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has sought a report from the Inspector General of Police on the incident. He said the Edhi Centre serves as a vital support system for the poor and vulnerable, and directed the authorities to conduct an immediate investigation and bring those responsible to justice.
The Chief Minister added that protecting the lives and property of citizens remains the provincial government’s foremost priority.
