A new online scam offering a Rs13,000 cash prize has emerged in Pakistan, targeting citizens on the occasion of Independence Day. The National Cyber Emergency Response Team has issued an important security alert to the public.
According to authorities, fraudsters are sending fake messages via SMS and WhatsApp, claiming that recipients have won a cash prize of Rs13,000 and encouraging them to click on malicious links.
Cybersecurity experts have warned that clicking on such links or entering personal information, banking details, or other sensitive data could result in financial losses, hacked accounts, and theft of personal information.
The National Cyber Emergency Response Team has advised citizens not to click on any unverified or suspicious links, respond to such messages, or forward them to others.
Citizens have also been advised to immediately delete any suspicious messages they receive, block the sender’s number, and report the message through the relevant platform.
The national cyber team further advised the public to verify any suspicious web link or URL through the official “Phish Radar” portal of the National Cyber Emergency Response Team before opening it, in order to stay protected from online fraud.
