RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi Police have banned the entry of motorcycles at all flyovers to avert any untoward incident during the Basant festival, local media reported on Saturday.
As per details, on the occasion of Basant in Punjab, several measures have been taken given the fear of losses from kite strings.
The Rawalpindi Police have announced the closure of flyovers at Murree Road, Airport Road, and other localities for motorcyclists. Concurrently, they have apprehended several individuals engaged in aerial firing during the Basant festival in various parts of the city.
Furthermore, Rawalpindi police are actively pursuing actions against individuals participating in unlawful activities during the Basant celebrations. Numerous individuals have been detained from different areas across the city.
“The police and district administration teams are committed to upholding peace and maintaining law and order throughout the province,” stated the administration.
Prior to this, the Punjab police forwarded a proposal to enhance penalties for kite-flying within the province, suggesting a prison term of five years and a fine of Rs2 million.
As per the recommendation outlined in a communication from the Punjab police to the provincial government, penalties for those involved in the production and flying of kites are set to increase. Individuals involved in the production of thread and kites containing prohibited materials will now face a five-year imprisonment, as opposed to the previous one-year term, in addition to a fine of Rs2 million, which was previously Rs500,000.
Previously, a bill was introduced in the National Assembly advocating for a complete ban on kite-flying in the federal capital.
