RAWALPINDI: Police on Wednesday arrested a man for thrashing his mother severely after a video of the incident went viral on social media.
Earlier, the police filed a case against the suspect, Arsalan and his wife, for beating his mother severely. The woman said that her son and daughter-in-law fought with her every day and that they had both thrashed her.
Arsalan had fled with his wife after subjecting his mother to the beating. However, police arrested the suspect today after the video of the incident went viral on social media and drew the attestation of high-ups.
A video that went viral on social media Tuesday night showed a man beating his mother while his wife stood in the background, encouraging him. The woman can be seen pleading with her son repeatedly to stop but he continues to thrash her.
The video generated hue and cry on Twitter with many calling for the man to be arrested for subjecting his mother to torture.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar took notice of the incident and ordered the RPO Rawalpindi to submit a report regarding the matter. Buzdar said that the government will ensure that the man who subjected his mother to a beating is arrested.
Sources said Arsalan Qureshi has been granted interim bail today and is currently in police custody at Sadiqabad police station.
In the police custody, the accused in a video statement said, “I am very ashamed of my act. It is an unbearable act. I apologize to mothers all over Pakistan and all over the world, including my mother, for this heinous act.”
He further said all this happened in a misunderstanding. “My wife told me very strange things that I could not control my emotions and I tortured my mother,” he confessed. On the other hand, the police said that the case is being investigated on merit.
