Pakistan Railways has temporarily suspended the operations of eight passenger trains due to rising diesel prices and increased operational costs.
According to railway officials, the continuous surge in petroleum product prices, along with low passenger turnout on certain routes, has made it financially difficult to sustain regular train services. As a result, the administration decided to suspend multiple services in order to reduce fuel expenses.
Media reports, citing sources within the railways, confirmed that the suspended trains include Mehran Express, Chaman Express, Marvi Express, Ravi Express, Samman Sarkar, Mohenjodaro, Bolan Mail, and Khushhal Khan Khattak Express.
A spokesperson for Pakistan Railways said the decision is temporary and that the services will be restored once the financial situation improves and operational pressures ease.
He further said that the department is working on alternative arrangements and operational strategies to minimize inconvenience for passengers, while prioritizing efficient use of available resources under the current economic conditions.
