For the first time, Punjab is using drone technology to monitor and assist the Eidul Adha sanitation operation.
According to a spokesperson for the “Suthra Punjab” initiative, more than 110,000 tons of animal waste and remains were disposed of across the province during the first and second days of Eid.
The spokesperson added that over 17,000 tons of waste were collected and removed from Lahore alone.
Punjab Information Minister Uzma Bukhari said that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is personally supervising the sanitation operation, which is progressing successfully.
She said teams under the Suthra Punjab programme remain active in both urban and rural areas across the province.
She further said that around 184,000 workers are engaged in the cleanliness drive, and after the removal of waste, streets and neighborhoods are being washed with rose-scented water to ensure hygiene and improve public conditions.
It is worth mentioning that Section 144 is enforced during this period, with severe fines (e.g., up to Rs. 50,000) for individuals caught dumping offal in drains, canals, or open plots.
