The Punjab government is set to announce a two-week holiday for educational institutions across the province due to the winter season.
The winter vacation is expected to begin on December 21 (Saturday) and last until January 1, 2025 (Wednesday).
The final decision will depend on the education department’s assessment of weather conditions, especially considering this year’s worsening smog issue, which led to the temporary closure of schools in some areas.
Last year, winter vacation ran from December 18–31 and was later extended until January 9, 2024.
The December break is meant to protect students from harsh weather, with schools reopening in the first month of the new year.
Meanwhile, following a week-long school closure due to severe smog, the provincial government has decided to reopen educational institutions in three divisions of Punjab—Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Gujranwala—as air quality has significantly improved over the past few days.
However, schools in Lahore and Multan divisions will remain closed until further notice, according to a notification from the Punjab School Education Department.
