A man’s celebration of his child’s birth proved costly in Punjab’s Okara, when a case was registered against him for announcing the arrival of his newborn through a mosque loudspeaker in the Chhab Kalan district.
According to police, a resident named Tasavvur used the loudspeaker of Gulzar-e-Madina Mosque to share the news of his son’s birth, following which a case was filed against him for violating the Punjab Sound System Act.
This is the same law that prohibits unnecessary or loud use of sound systems, and violations can result in up to six months in prison or a fine ranging from Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 100,000.
Interestingly, in October 2025, police in Okara also apprehended a rickshaw driver under the same law for playing a Naseebo Lal song at high volume.
A police spokesperson stated that violations of the rules will not be tolerated under any circumstances, and strict action will continue against those who break the law.
