Punjab declares domestic worker rape, death case high-profile

LAHORE: The case involving the alleged rape and subsequent death of a domestic worker during an abortion procedure has been declared a high-profile case by the Punjab prosecution authorities.

According to reports, the Prosecutor General of Punjab has formally classified the case as high-profile and summoned the investigating officer along with all relevant records for review.

The prosecution will provide the investigating officer with a detailed line of inquiry and will examine the applicable legal sections and evidence in the case.

The incident relates to a domestic worker who died at a hospital during an abortion procedure after allegedly being subjected to sexual assault. A case has been registered at Model Town police station in Lahore.

Police officials said statements of the victim, including a written and video testimony, were used in registering a gang-rape case, after which murder charges were also added.

Authorities confirmed that although the victim’s father initially refused permission for a post-mortem examination, it was conducted under legal procedure. Further investigation is ongoing following the post-mortem report.
