Islamabad: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued an advisory warning citizens that sharing a SIM card registered in their name with another person is a criminal offence and may result in legal penalties.
According to the authority, the use of a SIM card registered in someone else’s name is also considered unlawful. PTA stated that responsibility for any activity carried out through a SIM card rests with the individual in whose name the SIM is registered.
The authority has advised citizens to maintain a complete record of all SIM cards registered against their national identity card and to immediately block any unknown or unnecessary SIMs to prevent potential misuse.
PTA further urged consumers to obtain new SIM cards only through authorised franchises or customer service centres in order to minimise the risks of fraud and other illegal activities.
The regulator emphasised the importance of using mobile connections responsibly and securely, noting that public cooperation can help prevent cybercrime and other unlawful activities.
