The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) recorded a mixed session on Wednesday, with the benchmark KSE-100 Index falling more than 1,100 points after gaining in early trading. The decline came a day after the index dropped nearly 2% amid heightened selling pressure.
At close, the benchmark index settled at 176,846.36, a decline of 1,109.14 points or 0.62%.
Selling was seen across several major sectors, including automobile assemblers, cement companies, commercial banks, oil and gas exploration firms, oil marketing companies (OMCs), and power generators.
On Tuesday, the PSX faced significant selling pressure as ongoing domestic political uncertainty and rising global crude oil prices dampened investor sentiment. The KSE-100 Index plunged 2,546.94 points, or 1.41%, to close at 177,955.51 points.
Global oil prices rose to three-week highs on Wednesday, supported by uncertainty over shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and continuing supply disruptions. Brent crude futures increased 45 cents, or 0.49%, to $91.47 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) rose 45 cents, or 0.53%, to $85.39.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s current account deficit narrowed 38% year-on-year during the first month of fiscal year 2026-27, helped by stronger exports and healthy workers’ remittances.
