The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Wednesday witnessed a mixed session with the benchmark KSE-100 Index recording minor gains.

Stocks opened the morning session on a strong footing, surging by nearly 700 points, but selling pressure later wiped out most of the early gains, with the benchmark index closing at 188,380.38, up 177.53 points, or 0.09 percent.

On Tuesday, the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) ended marginally lower as cautious trading dominated following the State Bank of Pakistan’s surprise decision to keep the policy rate unchanged.

The benchmark KSE-100 Index shed 384.80 points, or 0.20 percent, to settle at 188,202.86.

Meanwhile, foreign direct investment (FDI) into the country declined sharply by 43.3 percent during July–December of the current fiscal year (FY26).

Portfolio investment also remained in negative territory, posting an outflow of $225.1 million compared to $221.8 million in the same period last year. Despite these trends, Pakistan’s stock market index recorded a robust increase of 64.2 percent, while market capitalization rose by 49.9 percent and company incorporations increased by 28.7 percent.

However, exports fell by 5 percent, and the current account deficit widened to $1.174 billion in the first half of FY26 compared to the same period last year.
