The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) witnessed a volatile session on Friday as the benchmark KSE-100 Index erased the morning session gains, losing over 600 points.

At close, the benchmark index settled at 167,844.24, a decline of 670.20 points or 0.04%.

Selling pressure was seen in major sectors, including commercial banks, fertilizer, oil and gas exploration companies, and power generation.

On Thursday, the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) staged a strong bullish rally as investor sentiment improved on optimism over ongoing US-Iran talks and lower international oil prices, sparking aggressive buying activity.

The benchmark KSE-100 Index surged by 3,683.02 points, or 2.23%, on a day-on-day basis to close at 168,514.45 points.

Meanwhile, Foreign exchange reserves held by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) increased by $1.214 billion during the week ending May 15, 2026, reaching $17.081 billion, according to data issued on Thursday.

The SBP said the rise was primarily driven by inflows received under the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) Extended Fund Facility (EFF) and Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF), as well as proceeds from Panda Bonds.

In the oil market, prices climbed on Friday with Brent crude futures rising $1.66, or 1.6%, to $104.24 a barrel by 0405 GMT, while US West Texas Intermediate futures were up $1.11, or 1.2%, at $97.46.
