KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) reopened on Friday after a lengthy week-long holiday and still closed on a negative note after losing the 45,000 points level.
The benchmark KSE-100 index plunged in early trading session and reached the lowest level of 44,784.42 points. It eventually regained control in later trading but closed on a negative note.
The bourse decreased by 408.60 points, with a negative change of 0.9 percent, and closed at 44,840.81 points. The total volume of shares were 87.692 million valued at Rs4.57 billion. The lower bench KSE-30 index decreased by 165.98 (-0.96%) and closed at 17,148.53 points. The total volume of shares were 60.383 million.
The KMI 30 index declined by 1,022.66 points (-1.38%) and closed at 72.989.51 points, while the All Share Index dropped 294.36 points (-0.96%) and closed at 30,480.30 points.
Total companies traded were 333 compared to 340 from the previous session. Of the scrips traded 90 closed up, 219 closed down while 24 remained unchanged. The total volume of shares traded were 189.444 million at the stock market.
The highest number of shares traded belonged to Summit Bank Ltd (SMBL 9.24%) which traded 23.745 million shares. This was followed by Unity Foods (UNITY 2.92%), Cnergyico Pk Ltd (CNERGY -3.78%), and Pakistan Refinery Ltd (PRL -5.97%). The number of scrips traded were 18.231 million, 9.126 million, and 8.656 million, respectively.
Of the 92 traded companies in the KSE100 Index 18 closed up 72 closed down, while 2 remained unchanged. Total volume traded for the index was 87.69 million shares.
Sector wise, the index was let down by Commercial Banks with 86 points, Cement with 82 points, Technology & Communication with 71 points, Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 49 points and Fertilizer with 27 points.
Sectors propping up the index were Automobile Assembler with 24 points, Investment Banks/Securities with 12 points, Automobile Parts & Accessories with 6 points, Close – End Mutual Fund with 4 points and Sugar & Allied Industries with four points.
