NEW YORK: Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Munir Akram has demanded the UN Security Council to put pressure on Afghanistan to stop the attacks of the outlawed TTP.
Munir Akram said that everyone should know how and from where the outlawed TTP is getting arms and ammunition. Addressing the UN Security Council meeting regarding Afghanistan, Munir Akram said that the financial sources of the TTP need to be traced and the Afghan interim government should be asked to cut ties with the terrorist organization.
Earlier, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Afghanistan, Roza Otunbayeva, said that Pakistan also has serious reservations about the TTP and that the Taliban government will not continue until the Afghan Taliban fulfills all its promises. “It will be hard to admit,” he said.
He added that Afghanistan remains a constant challenge for the international community, with women and girls being denied access to education and employment, and increasing concerns about violence, including the death penalty.
