ISLAMABAD: President Dr. Arif Alvi on Tuesday attended the enthronement ceremony of Emperor of Japan Naruhito in Tokyo.
The ceremony was attended by more than 100 heads of state and government. The president was accompanied by First Lady Samina Alvi, according to a statement issued by the Aiwan-e-Sadr. The President and First Lady felicitated the Emperor and the Empress on ascending the throne.
The President and First Lady are currently visiting Japan on the invitation of the Japanese Government. Later in the evening, they will also attend the State Banquet to be hosted by the Emperor in the honour of the visiting dignitaries.
President Alvi arrived in Tokyo on Sunday on a four-day official visit on the invitation of the Japanese government to attend the enthronement ceremony of his Japanese emperor Naruhito.
During his four-day visit the president will meet the political leadership of Japan besides meeting representatives from important Japanese companies having investment in Pakistan.
On the sidelines, the President will also meet the Vice President of China Mr Wang Qishan. He will address the Pakistani Community in Japan as well.
Pakistan and Japan are long standing friends. The cooperative bilateral relations have been on an upward trajectory, with a huge potential to enhance mutually beneficial cooperation in diverse areas such as economic, commercial, investment, IT, agriculture, human resource development and tourism.
The visit by the president would further cement the already existing friendly relations between the two countries.
According to the Japanese Embassy in Pakistan, the ceremony which officially proclaims the enthronement of the new Japanese Emperor will take place in the Imperial Court in Japan on October 22, 2019,
Around 200 foreign heads of state and other eminent guests from various countries and international organisations will attend this auspicious occasion.
Furthermore, court banquets will be held after the ceremony on 22nd, 25th, 29th and 31st October to celebrate the enthronement and to receive the felicitations of their local and foreign guests.
