Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Sindh President Nisar Khuhro has strongly criticized Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi over his recent remarks, urging him to step down from his position.
Khuhro said that supporting a hybrid system, describing the current system as dysfunctional, and advocating the creation of new provinces fall outside the constitutional framework. He added that if the interior minister believes the existing system has failed, he should not remain part of the government.
The PPP leader said the Constitution provides a clear mechanism for the creation of a new province, emphasizing that no new province can be established without a resolution passed by a two-thirds majority in the relevant provincial assembly.
He maintained that there is no need to create a new province in Sindh, adding that if the issue of provincial division is to be discussed, Punjab should be considered, as a resolution on the matter had already been passed there in the past.
Khuhro further said that anyone making statements contrary to the Constitution should be regarded as acting against the national interest. He also criticized proposals to create 22 provinces, arguing that such a move would significantly increase administrative costs.
The PPP Sindh president also raised the issue of the Jalalpur Canal project, stating that the matter is currently pending before the Council of Common Interests (CCI) and will be taken up again when the council convenes.
