The number of children living with HIV in Pakistan has risen to an alarming level, with the total nearing 7,500, according to official figures.
Data released by the Ministry of National Health Services shows that around 62,000 HIV patients are currently receiving treatment across the country, with children accounting for approximately 12% of the total caseload.
According to the figures, Sindh is the worst-affected province, with nearly 4,200 children registered as living with HIV.
The report states that, in view of the growing number of HIV-positive children, the government has sought support from international organizations to strengthen nutritional assistance and treatment services.
The federal government has requested assistance from UNICEF, the World Food Programme (WFP), the World Health Organization (WHO), and Nutrition International to help meet the nutritional needs of affected children.
Health experts say children living with HIV require timely treatment, adequate nutrition, comprehensive medical care, and social support to improve their quality of life.
