LAHORE: By-polls for Punjab Assembly constituency PP-206 have started in Khanewal and polling has been started which will continue till 5 pm.
According to details, more than 2.3 million registered voters will exercise their franchise in the polling for the vacant seat in Khanewal on the death of PML-N member Punjab Assembly.
183 polling stations have been set up in Punjab Assembly constituency PP-206 for by-elections. Delivery of election materials to the polling station has been completed.
A fork contest is expected between PTI and PML-N in the constituency. Begum Noorin Nishat has entered the fray for the Punjab Assembly seat on behalf of PTI.
PML-N candidate Rana Muhammad Saleem Hanif and PPP candidate Mir Syed Wasiq Sirjees Haider are also ready for the contest. The Khanewal PP-206 seat was vacated after the death of PML-N MP Nishat Daha. Security arrangements have been tightened at sensitive polling stations.

It may be recalled that earlier the time for the election campaign for by-elections in PP-206 had expired. Preparations for the polls were in full swing while the house of a PPP candidate was attacked during the political turmoil.
In the past, Nishat Ahmed of PML-N had won the Punjab Assembly constituency PP-206 in Khanewal in 2018 by getting 51,353 votes.
