Political reconciliation for elections

The ongoing political tussle between the federal government and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf has entered an interesting phase and this turning point came when the government initiated a process arbitration.

First, Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Sirajul Haq was brought forward, who held separate meetings with Chairman PTI Imran Khan and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and advised both of them to remove their differences.

The mediation efforts on the part of the government to end its grudges with the opposition are undoubtedly commendable and should be applauded in any case. Two days ago, Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani also appeared determined for mediation efforts.

Such efforts show the government’s firm commitment to resolve the political crisis. Due to political instability, the country’s economy is also suffering from deterioration and political stability has become a national need of the country which cannot be denied.

On the one hand, these are valuable mediation efforts, on the other hand, the unfortunate thing is that Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervez Ashraf has written a letter to the Chief Justice alleging that the Supreme Court is interfering in the decisions of the National Assembly.

In fact, such actions are an attempt to put pressure on the Supreme Court and are against the principles of democracy. The government should not be too lax in conducting elections because elections are the most important part of democracy.

What is democracy? This word is derived from ‘Jamhoor’ which means the people and its most important definition is that democracy is the government of the people, by the people and for the people, but the importance of public interest for the current government is in front of everyone.

It is important that the government allows democracy to take its course and the law its own. The decisions of the Supreme Court for elections are nothing less than a positive sign, while any attempt to put pressure on the court is harmful for democracy.

However, there is no denying that mediation between political parties and the promotion of political stability is also our national need. It can be hoped that the mediation efforts will be successful as well as the early holding of elections.
