Unknown assailants martyred two Levies Force personnel deployed for the security of a polio team in the Mastung district of Balochistan.
Armed men opened fire on Levies officials Naik Muhammad and Maqsood Ahmed, who were assigned to protect the polio team. According to police officials, Naik Muhammad was martyred on the spot, while Maqsood Ahmed was taken to the hospital in critical condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind strongly condemned the tragic incident, calling it a heartbreaking tragedy. He emphasized that despite such attacks, the anti-polio campaign will not be allowed to fail under any circumstances.
Shahid Rind stated that a complete and transparent investigation of the incident is underway, and all aspects are being examined. Paying tribute to the martyred personnel, he said, “We salute the sacrifices of our brave Levies officials and take pride in their service.”
In a separate incident in the Kulachi tehsil of Dera Ismail Khan district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, unidentified armed individuals kidnapped two polio workers.
According to police, the incident occurred when gunmen opened fire on a passenger van heading toward Kulachi and forcibly took two individuals from the vehicle.
The abducted polio workers were returning after attending a training session of the National Emergency Polio Campaign.
These attacks have occurred at a time when Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has formally launched a seven-day national anti-polio
