LAHORE: Reports of a rift between PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif and his niece, vice-president Maryam Nawaz have emerged, with the latter is in charge and her grip on the party is getting stronger.
According to details, PML-N is divided into two factions – ‘S’ Shehbaz group and ‘M’ Maryam group. Sources revealed that party’s vice president is avoiding discussing important strategies with Shehbaz Sharif and his group or consulting him for political advice.
A party source on condition of anonymity has claimed that the divergence has grown to such an extent that even the option of resigning from the assemblies wasn’t discussed in detail in their last meeting. Instead, the discussion merely focused on general political issues.
Sources further claimed that PML-N’s strategies regarding Senate elections are almost missing. “In the absence of Shahbaz Sharif, the PML-N will not be able to achieve significant results in the Senate elections,” the sources claimed.
The party sources further said that Shehbaz Sharif was not satisfied with the party’s approach and strategy and he even insisted on a national dialogue to steer the country out of the present crisis.
Maryam Nawaz had earlier warned PML-N members of massive protests outside their residence if they opposed the decisions taken by the party, a threat that had angered many PML-N leaders.
