LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lawmaker Shumaila Rana has come under strong criticism on social media and among the public following her remarks about her monthly salary.

In a viral interview, Rana said that making ends meet on a monthly salary of Rs520,000 was not easy and suggested that lawmakers’ salaries should be increased to Rs1 million per month to help them better cover household expenses.

The PML-N lawmaker said she was currently able to save some money only because she was dieting, adding that otherwise it would be difficult to manage her day-to-day living expenses.

She further said that meeting ordinary expenses becomes even more difficult without facilities such as an official residence or vehicle.

Rana’s remarks drew mixed reactions from the public and social media users, with several people questioning her stance in light of the income of ordinary citizens and the rising cost of living.
