ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday met Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa during the oath-taking ceremony of the new Chief Justice of Pakistan.
Both army chief and Imran Khan discussed the prevailing situation and the matters of mutual interests of the country on the sidelines of the oath-taking ceremony.
The ceremony was held at Aiwan-e-Sadr where Justice Gulzar Ahmad took an oath and assumed charge as the 27th CJP and would remain as Chief Justice till 1st February 2022.
On 4th December, the law ministry issued the notification for the appointment of Justice Gulzar Ahmad as CJP after seeking approval from President Arif Alvi.
Justice Gulzar had remained the part of benches which had announced various landmark and high profile judgments. He is the senior-most judge of the Supreme Court after the incumbent Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khosa.

He is seen as an expert on civil and corporate law. He has remained part of the benches on several important matters, including constitutional amendments, military courts, Panamagate, restoration of Karachi Circular Railway, and removal of encroachments.
Justice Gulzar Ahmed remained acting Chief Justice of Pakistan from 20th to 28th November 2018 and 13th to 17th May 2019.
