KARACHI: In a major breakthrough in the high-profile murder of young entrepreneur and IBA student Mir Raza Ali, a preliminary postmortem report has confirmed that the victim died of extreme blood loss from a single gunshot wound to the chest, police and investigative sources revealed on Saturday.
The body of Raza Ali, who had been missing since leaving the PECHS area on the night of July 28, was recovered from Gulistan-e-Jauhar on July 29 in an advanced state of decomposition.
According to the police surgeon’s preliminary findings, while significant signs of post-mortem tissue decay were observed, there were no indications of burn injuries on the body. The cause of death was determined to be shock resulting from excessive hemorrhaging caused by the chest wound.
Critical Evidence Recovered
Investigative teams probing the homicide have secured major physical evidence from the area. Police confirmed the victim’s mobile phone was spotted and recovered roughly 200 yards from where the body was dumped, while a empty pistol holster was seized directly at the crime scene.
A senior police official privy to the development said that investigators are analyzing the victim’s digital footprint after discovering that all of his social media profiles were deactivated a day prior to the recovery of his body.
“We have formally approached the cellular service providers to retrieve Call Detail Records (CDR) and complete data logs of the deceased to trace his final interactions,” the official added.
Final Known Movements
Reconstructing his timeline, investigators established that Raza Ali boarded an ride-hailing taxi at 4:09 a.m. on July 28 from PECHS. The taxi driver, who was traced and questioned by police, stated that he dropped the passenger off at his commercial kitchen facility in Gulistan-e-Jauhar.
Raza Ali, who had been running a business for the past five years alongside his studies at the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), was reportedly engaged to be married next month. Family sources said he was in high spirits regarding his upcoming wedding in August.
Police officials stated that following the postmortem findings and forensic evidence recovered from the site, the scope of the homicide investigation has been expanded, with dedicated teams re-evaluating every potential lead to identify and track down the perpetrators.
