KARACHI: Petrol prices in Pakistan continued their upward march as the federal government announced another hike on the night of July 23, taking the cumulative increase in July to over Rs32 per litre.

According to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division, the price of petrol (Motor Spirit) has been increased by Rs4.40 per litre, bringing the new retail price to Rs331.52 per litre as of today, July 24, 2026.

The price of high-speed diesel (HSD) has also been raised by Rs3.62 per litre, with the new retail price set at Rs378.66 per litre. The revised prices have taken effect immediately.

The latest hike caps a brutal week for consumers under the new daily pricing regime.

On June 30, 2026, the official retail price of petrol was Rs299.50 per litre. This rate had been in effect since June 27, 2026, following the last monthly revision before the daily mechanism kicked in.

As of July 24, 2026, petrol stands at Rs331.52 per litre.

Net increase in July 2026 (so far):

June 30 price: Rs299.50/L

July 24 price: Rs331.52/L

Increase: Rs32.02 per litre – about 10.7% rise in less than a month.

This jump reflects multiple daily revisions since July 21, when OGRA began adjusting prices every working day under the new market-linked mechanism.

In just the last four days alone, petrol has become Rs15.72 per litre more expensive, rising from Rs315.80 to Rs331.52, while high-speed diesel has jumped by Rs24.31 per litre, from Rs354.35 to Rs378.66. The only relief in between was a 35-paisa cut in petrol, which was immediately wiped out by subsequent hikes.

The relentless pace has sparked strong criticism from motorists and the business community, who say the daily pricing mechanism, instead of providing market transparency, has become a daily shock for consumers already struggling with soaring living costs.
