LAHORE: Pakistan remains under the grip of an active second monsoon spell with heavy overnight rain inundating major cities across Punjab, with Lahore reporting severe water logging and urban flooding since Wednesday night.
Social media timelines are flooded with visuals from across Lahore since last evening.
In central areas — Lakshmi Chowk, Punjab Assembly Chowk, High Court, Mall Road — commuters posted videos of knee-deep muddy water submerging cars up to their doors, with motorcyclists and delivery riders wading through water to push bikes.
In south and west Lahore — DHA (Phases 4-9, Bedian Road), Johar Town, Wapda Town, Defence Road, Raiwind Road, Sabzazar, Iqbal Town, Gulshan-e-Ravi — residents shared dashcam and handheld clips showing residential streets turned into fast-flowing streams, water entering homes and shops, and vehicles half-submerged.
One widely shared reel from DHA showed a white Toyota Yaris stranded with water inside the cabin.
According to viral news bulletins, the past 24 hours alone brought 123mm at Lakshmi Chowk, 122mm at Pani Wala Talab, 106mm at Ichhra, 90mm at Moon Market Iqbal Town, and 67mm at Gulshan Ravi.
Users report prolonged power outages, traffic jams, and underpasses closed. The tone is a mix of frustration and resilience, with many advising others to avoid unnecessary travel and help stranded commuters.
Similar scenes of waterlogging were reported from Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot and Faisalabad.

PDMA Punjab says Lahore received 343mm of rain over the past 48 hours and water was cleared in record time from major roads, intersections and underpasses.
PDMA also confirmed 21 rain-related deaths and 154 injured across Punjab during the ongoing monsoon season, with most fatalities due to collapse of weak roofs, electrocution and lightning strike.
DG PDMA has directed all district administrations to remain on high alert and enforce Section 144 around streams and nullahs, urging citizens to avoid dilapidated buildings and keep children away from electric wires and low-lying areas
WASA Punjab says real-time monitoring is underway from the monsoon control room, drainage operations are ongoing in 41 districts, and all field teams are on high alert for swift de-watering
The Pakistan Meteorological Department says monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal are penetrating upper parts of the country, with a westerly wave affecting central areas.
For today, PMD has forecast widespread intermittent rain, windstorm and thundershowers in Punjab, Islamabad, KP, Kashmir, northeast Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan, with heavy falls at a few places, and warned of urban flooding in Lahore, Rawalpindi/Islamabad, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Multan and Faisalabad during the spell
For Lahore city, today is overcast with thunderstorms — high 90°F / low 78°F, 100% chance of rain in the morning and isolated storms in the afternoon.
For Karachi, today is mostly cloudy, high 35°C / low 28°C, with a slight 15% chance of light rain late afternoon. PDMA Sindh has also issued a province-wide alert for strong winds and thunderstorms.
Authorities have once again advised the public to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from weak structures and electric poles, and contact emergency services in case of flooding.
