LAHORE: The Pakistan Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Thursday issued a flood alert in Punjab, one day after the unprecedented downpour inundated Lahore.
According to the PDMA spokesperson, there is a possibility of “a very high level of flood” in Jhelum, Sutlej, Ravi and Chenab rivers from July 8 to 10.
Moreover, India is likely to release water in Ravi and Sutlej rivers which may result in flooding.
The deputy commissioners of Punjab have also received a high alert from the disaster management body, which has instructed all departments to finish making preparations right away.
On the other side, Lahore is still experiencing rain, which has flooded the city’s low-lying districts.
Rain has begun in several parts of the LESCO region, and there are reports of heavy rain in Sheikhupura Circle, Nankana, and Nadran Circle of LESCO, according to the spokesman for Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO).
The field team has been placed on high alert per Shahid Haider, Chief Executive Engineer of LESCO.
Additionally, the electric supply provider advised its customers to keep their children, pets, and oneself away from electrical installations during bad weather.
The management of the business also asked customers to assist during these periods by giving immediate notice of any emergency to the LESCO team.
Meanwhile, In view of the risk of urban flooding in the city, DC Rawalpindi imposed Section 144 around Nullah Leh and other big drains. A ban has also been imposed on throwing any kind of garbage around these drains.
According to the notification, the ban was imposed to save human lives and legal action will be taken against the violators. The ban will be applicable from July 5 to July 11.
