The opening Test of the three-match series between Australia and Pakistan will take place in Perth later this year in December.
According to reports in the Australian media, the Test summer will begin in Perth and then move to the next two traditional holiday Tests in Melbourne and Sydney.
Optus Stadium has never hosted a red-ball Test match between Pakistan and Australia; instead, Pakistan has played T20 competitions there, including its shocking T20 World Cup defeat to Zimbabwe.
Last month, Christina Matthews, the head of Western Australian Cricket, made a request to Cricket Australia (CA) to allow Perth the opportunity to host a historic Test match against Pakistan rather than the West Indies for the second year in a row.
“We’ve certainly made it known our preference is Pakistan,” Matthews told The West Australian.
Cricket Australia wants to give a more appealing fixture to Perth this coming season, as the city had missed out on two years of Test cricket due to Covid-10 restrictions.
