Out of 200 most backward districts of the country, 17 are in Balochistan, disclosed a report released by the Pakistan Population Council on Monday.
According to the report, Washuk, Khuzdar, Kohlu and Zhob are among the most backward districts in the country.
Other districts, which fall in this category, are Mashkel, Dera Bugti, Qila Saifullah, Kalat, Tharparkar, Sheerani, Jhal Magsi, Naseerabad, Awaran, Kharan, North Waziristan, Kohistan and Panjgur.
The report informs that 97 per cent of homes in Jhal Magsi are made of mud.
It also informs that in most of districts of Balochistan, the road infrastructure is extremely poor and means of transport are also non-existent.
Similarly, in most of these areas, there is no mobile service. Out of 20 districts in the country where the employment opportunities are either quite limited or simply do not exist, 15 are in Balochistan, reads the report.
Compared with other two provinces, the ratio of unemployment in KP and Balochistan is higher.
Likewise, access to health services in both these provinces is also quite limited.
The nearest health center in far-flung areas of these provinces is at a distance of over 30 kilometers.
Karachi has the highest number of schools, while Balochistan has the least number of schools. Demographically speaking, Tharparkar district of Sindh is most backward.
The report notes that high birth rate and large families make access to education and health services difficult.
