ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday directed relevant authorities to establish a health tower of international standards in the federal capital. This complex will house diagnostic centers, contemporary labs, medical and nursing schools, and hospitals.
While chairing a meeting to discuss issues related to the Ministry of National Health Services, the prime minister called for a strategy to construct the tower through a public-private partnership.
Emphasizing the health sector’s critical role in saving lives, Prime Minister Sharif expressed concern over new polio cases in the country and committed to eradicating the disease by leveraging all available resources in collaboration with partners.
He also recommended a third-party audit of laboratories managed by the Ministry of National Health Services and the appointment of highly trained health experts to the ministry and its associated departments. Additionally, he instructed that the human resources of all government hospitals in Islamabad and their waste treatment plants be outsourced, and ordered an audit of nursing schools and colleges nationwide.
During the briefing, it was revealed that a National Blood Transfusion and Blood Products Policy would be introduced soon, with a nursing and midwifery policy framework nearing completion.
Prime Minister Shehbaz also vowed to personally oversee health-related issues, ordered a third-party audit of Pakistan’s Drug Regulatory Authority, and called for a strategy to separate drug processing from the authority.
