Saudi officials have warned that temperatures could soar up to 48 degrees Celsius as pilgrims prepare for the Hajj this week, according to Arab News.
Muhammad Al-Abdulaali, spokesperson for the Saudi health ministry, highlighted that the extreme heat presents a significant challenge for this year’s Hajj season, which starts on June 14.
“The ministry is doing everything possible to ensure a healthy and safe environment for pilgrims despite the severe weather conditions,” Al-Abdulaali said.
Pilgrims are advised to adhere to health guidelines to cope with the heat. Key measures include using umbrellas, staying hydrated, and taking regular breaks to avoid heat exhaustion.
The National Center for Meteorology forecasts that temperatures in Makkah will range from 45 to 48 degrees Celsius, remaining extremely hot with minimal chances of rain.
The Kingdom is making extensive preparations to ensure a safe and smooth Hajj pilgrimage this year.
Notably, a mobile control and monitoring center has been launched for the first time, featuring sensors linked to main roads. This system aims to manage traffic flow within Makkah and the holy sites, tracking public transport vehicles in real-time to monitor traffic density on routes designated for pilgrims.
Additionally, the General Authority for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque has deployed around 500 trained civilian security personnel to assist in organizing and managing crowds at the Grand Mosque. They will work in coordination with relevant authorities to maintain order.
Trained teams will also oversee security and safety operations, protecting property and individuals, and managing public facilities within the Grand Mosque area.
