KARACHI: The Pakistani rupee on Wednesday registered a marginal increase against the US dollar, appreciating 0.1% during the opening hours of trading in the interbank.
The rupee was hovering at 279.30, an increase of Re0.27 against the greenback around noon.
According to the SBP, the rupee fell against the US dollar on Tuesday, ending the day at 279.57.
In a significant move, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) agreed to establish a coalition government in the Center on Tuesday.
A joint press conference with PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and other senior leaders of the two parties was held late on Tuesday after the agreement was reached in a meeting between PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif and PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
Internationally, the US dollar fell broadly on Wednesday as it tracked a global decline in bond yields.
The greenback slipped below 150 yen in early Asia trade and last bought 149.93 yen, giving the Japanese currency some breathing space having been pinned near a three-month low in previous sessions.
