Pakistani freelancers have achieved a significant milestone in the country’s digital economy, earning a record $1.6 billion in foreign exchange during the first 11 months of the current fiscal year, according to official data.

The figures reflect the growing contribution of Pakistan’s freelance workforce to the national economy, with export earnings registering an impressive 80 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

Official statistics show that freelancers generated $169 million in export earnings in May 2026 alone, highlighting the sector’s continued expansion and increasing global demand for services provided by Pakistani professionals.

On a year-on-year basis, freelance export earnings in May surged by 87 percent, underscoring the rapid growth of the country’s digital services sector.

Industry observers say the strong performance demonstrates Pakistan’s emergence as a key player in the global freelance market, driven by a young workforce, expanding internet access, and growing expertise in fields such as information technology, software development, digital marketing, graphic design, and content creation.

The latest figures are being viewed as a positive sign for Pakistan’s digital economy, as freelance exports continue to generate valuable foreign exchange and create employment opportunities for thousands of skilled professionals across the country.

Experts believe that continued investment in digital infrastructure, skills development, and supportive policies could further accelerate the growth of Pakistan’s freelance sector and strengthen its contribution to the national economy.
