BEJING: The Chinese Foreign Ministry has congratulated Pakistan’s on Independence Day and said the country will accomplish greater achievements in its development and ties between the two countries will blossom.
Zhao Lijian, spokesperson for China’s Foreign Ministry, made the remarks at regular media briefing at the Blue Hall in Beijing.
“As today marks Pakistan’s Independence Day, I would like to take this occasion to send our congratulations. I have every confidence that Pakistan will achieve greater progress in national development and the friendship between China and Pakistan will see more fruitful chapters,” he said.
The Chinese spokesperson said the handover ceremony of 1,000 ventilators from China to Pakistan was held at Islamabad International Airport and Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Muhammad Afzal expressed thanks for the government and people of China.

NDMA Chairman appreciated China for continuous assistance during the pandemic. He said China not only helped Pakistan battle the pandemic but also assisted the country in fighting the locust swarms by providing pesticides and related equipment.
“Since the outbreak of the pandemic, China has donated materials weighing over 106 tons to Pakistan, and expanded cooperation in material assistance, experience sharing, traditional Chinese medicine and vaccine development,” Zhao said.
He said China attaches high importance to supporting Pakistan in combating the epidemic, and anti-virus cooperation between the two sides shows that solidarity and cooperation is the most powerful weapon to deal with global challenges.
“Chinese government has provided Pakistan with seven batches of anti-epidemic supplies this year, including such items as masks, protective gowns, testing reagents, ventilators, protective goggles, surgical gloves and thermometer guns, altogether weighing more than 100 tonnes,” he said.
“China will continue to fight COVID-19 alongside Pakistan and expand cooperation in areas like material assistance, experience-sharing and R&D of traditional medicine and vaccine until we vanquish the virus.”
