ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will open its Torkham and Chaman borders from today for four days to allow the exit of Afghan nationals living in the country.
The announcement was confirmed by the Foreign Office spokesperson in a statement that the step of opening borders had been taken to facilitate the Afghan nationals in Pakistan. It further stated that as a neighboring country and in view of friendly bilateral relations, Pakistan remains in enduring solidarity with the Afghanis.
Earlier on 20th March, Prime Minister Imran Khan in a tweet announced that in the time of crisis, Pakitan would remain steadfast with Afghanistan. He gave instructions to open the Chaman-Spin Boldak border and let trucks crossover into Afghanistan.
According to the prime minister, despite the global pandemic of COVID-19, Pakistan’s resolve to stand by and support the people of Afghanistan in their hour of need. Borders between Pakistan with Iran and Afghanistan had been closed since March due to the rising cases of coronavirus in the country.
