The federal government has announced an important step to prevent forgery in Pakistani passports.
According to a Radio Pakistan report, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has said that new security features will be introduced to curb passport fraud.
He made these remarks during his visit to the Beijing Public Security Passport Bureau, where Director General Sun Yu welcomed him on arrival.
During the visit, Mohsin Naqvi toured various sections of the bureau and received a detailed briefing on China’s passport and immigration policies, as well as the complete passport issuance process, from application to printing.
The interior minister praised the efficiency and effectiveness of China’s immigration system and said that Pakistan has also developed a fast and comprehensive passport and immigration system.
He added that Pakistan is working towards establishing a modern immigration system on the lines of the Beijing model.
At the end of 2025, the Directorate of Passports and Immigration released its annual performance report. On the instructions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, 2025 was declared a year of transformative reforms under the leadership of the Director General of Passports.
According to the report, the installation of modern printers made it possible to permanently clear the long-standing backlog of passport applications.
The Passport Department stated that a total of 5,572,013 passports were issued in 2025, the highest number ever issued in a single year.
The data shows that 3,275,263 passports were issued under the normal category, 1,839,487 under the urgent category, and 276,789 passports under the fast-track category.
