Pakistan has decided to export wheat products to the United Arab Emirates following a request from the Gulf state. In the first phase, flour, refined flour, semolina and other wheat-based products will be exported.
According to a report by a private television channel, government sources said the UAE has requested the supply of 100,000 tonnes of wheat products.
The exports are expected to provide economic benefits to Pakistan’s flour milling industry and farmers.
Several countries, including Sri Lanka and China, have also shown interest in purchasing wheat products from Pakistan. Flour mills operating under the supervision of the federal government will be included in the export system.
Maryam Nawaz, Chief Minister of Punjab, has directed the provincial Food Safety Department to play an active role in the export of wheat products.
With the arrival of Pakistan’s new wheat crop, surplus supplies are expected to be available after meeting domestic food requirements. The new wheat crop in Punjab is likely to begin arriving next month.
