ISLAMABAD: Justice Munib Akhtar has taken oath as the Acting Chief Justice of Pakistan after Chief Justice Yahya Afridi proceeded abroad, the Supreme Court said.
According to details, a dignified oath-taking ceremony was held at the Supreme Court’s Karachi Branch Registry, where the senior-most judge, Justice Munib Akhtar, was sworn in as Acting Chief Justice of Pakistan.
Justice Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui, Acting Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court, administered the oath.
The Supreme Court, in an official statement, said the appointment was made due to Chief Justice Yahya Afridi’s foreign visit, and Justice Munib Akhtar will continue to perform his duties as Acting Chief Justice until his return.
The ceremony was attended by Supreme Court and Federal Constitutional Court judges, senior court officials, the Registrar, and prominent members of the legal fraternity.
