MUZAFFARABAD: Anjum Zaman Awan, a member of the banned Joint Awami Action Committee’s (JAAC) core committee, announced his disassociation from the organization in a video message, officials said.
In the video, Zaman Awan said the slogans of separatism and self-determination being promoted to youth were backed by forces hostile to Pakistan. He alleged that certain elements were misleading young people and claimed that Pakistan-hostile agencies and backdoor deals were behind them.
Zaman Awan said the committee’s peaceful movement was diverted toward lawbreaking, which damaged the future of the youth. He stated he was completely disassociating from what he called the “destructive politics” of the banned Joint Awami Action Committee and urged youth not to join any group with an anti-Pakistan agenda.
Officials said this comes after JAAC core committee member Amjad Ali Khan Advocate had earlier also announced disassociation from the banned Joint Awami Action Committee.
Analysts said Zaman Awan’s statement has brought the committee’s disruptive agenda into public view and that he rejected narratives against the Pakistan Army and Pakistan while separating himself from the committee.
