KARACHI: A judicial magistrate expressed strong displeasure with the investigating officer during a hearing in the cocaine dealer Anmol alias Pinky case at Karachi City Court, saying the main accused had not even been formally arrested despite being in jail for a month.
The court was hearing cases against Anmol Pinky and her alleged facilitators Aqib and Ghulam Abbas, who were presented in court. During proceedings it emerged that the name of main accused Anmol alias Pinky had not yet been included in the case paperwork.
Judicial Magistrate Naeem Akhtar told the investigating officer there was no justification for failing to record the arrest of a woman already detained in jail for a month, and asked how an officer who could not arrest a jailed suspect would conduct the investigation. The state counsel assured the court that the investigating officer would record the formal arrest of the accused today.
The investigating officer told the court that a mobile phone used in the crime needed to be recovered on Aqib’s identification, and that arrest of other absconding members of the network was still pending. The court accepted the request and extended the physical remand of both Aqib and Ghulam Abbas by 2 more days.
Officials said serious drug trafficking cases are registered against the suspects at Garden and Boat Basin police stations in Karachi.
