ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said Pakistan will continue playing a facilitating role for regional peace and stability including the Afghan peace process.
He was talking to Afghan Ambassador to Pakistan Atif Mishal, who paid a farewell call. The foreign minister said durable peace and stability in the region is linked to peace in Afghanistan.
He said intra-Afghan dialogue will pave the way for sustainable peace in Afghanistan. The Afghan ambassador thanked the foreign minister for his good wishes.
Yesterday, the outgoing Afghan Ambassador Atif Mashal called on Foreign Secretary Sohail Mahmood in Islamabad.
The foreign secretary reiterated steadfast support for Afghanistan’s peace and reconciliation process and said Pakistan is committed to enhancing bilateral cooperation with Afghanistan.
In a tweet after the meeting, the outgoing Afghan ambassador said that during the farewell meeting, he expressed gratitude to the foreign secretary for strong support and active cooperation extended to him during his diplomatic mission in Islamabad.
He said they deliberated on the latest developments in Afghan peace process and the need for further strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries.
