The principal and vice principal of Government Khawaja Fareed Graduate College in Rahim Yar Khan have been removed from their positions, as reported by national media.
According to a report by Geo News on Saturday, a musical night was organized on February 27 in honor of the new principal, during which videos of female students dancing went viral.
Following the circulation of these videos, the Higher Education Department took action. The Secretary of Higher Education ordered the removal of the college’s principal, Professor Jamil Khan, and vice principal, Arshad Baig, directing them to report to Lahore. A committee has also been formed to investigate the matter.
Earlier, the Punjab Directorate of Public Instruction (Colleges) officially banned dancing and other activities deemed “unethical” in both public and private colleges across the province. A notification issued by the department states that all forms of “unethical and vulgar activities” have been banned, reinforcing the administration’s stance on maintaining a strict educational environment.
The Secretary of the Higher Education Department emphasized that such activities are not in line with the principles of quality education. The decision follows instances where students and teachers were seen dancing on stage and in classrooms during fun fairs, sports galas, and other events, often to Indian songs—an issue the authorities deemed inappropriate for academic institutions.
