Pak-China border via Khunjerab Pass in GB to be closed for traffic

GILGIT BALTISTAN: Gilgit Baltistan government has announced to close the Pakistan-China border via Khunjerab Pass in Hunza for traffic from tonight onwards after remaining open for 14 days.
According to a notification, the border was opened in order to evacuate containers loaded with Chinese goods of Pakistani businessmen stranded in Kashgar.
Earlier, Prime Minister Advisor on Commerce and Investment, Abdul Razak Dawood had said that trade with China through Khunjerab Pass resumed temporarily.
He said the opening of the border was a longstanding demand of the businessmen, particularly from the Gilgit Baltistan region, which remained closed due to coronavirus outbreak.
“The team at Commerce Ministry must be lauded for their hard work in resolving this severe problem in consultation with Chinese authorities and other stakeholders in GB,” Dawood added.
It is worth mentioning here that the border had been closed since the outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic however, both countries had given consent for its reopening from 29th July to 10th August.
