KARACHI: Director Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy has criticized appointing Turkish actress Esra Bilgic as the brand ambassador of Peshawar Zalmi.
Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy termed the news dangerous for Pakistani artists. A few days ago, Turkish actress Esra Bilgiç shared a photo of Islamia College in Peshawar on her social media accounts and called it a ‘city of flowers’.
Javed Afridi, the founder of Peshawar Zalmi, retweeted this tweet of Isra Bulgich and wrote exactly the same thing, “City of Flowers”. Just after this, speculations started that Isra would become Peshawar Zalmi’s brand ambassador in the Pakistan Super League this year.

However, when the news circulated on social media, Oscar-winning director Sharmeen Obaid did not seem to be happy over the idea of a Turkish actress becoming a brand ambassador of Peshawar Zalmi.
Commenting on the post, Sharmeen Obaid wrote that a Turkish actress who does not even play sports in her country will now become the face of Pakistan’s leading cricket team.
The Oscar-winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, for instance, said, “I find this hilarious! A Turkish actress whose country doesn’t even play the sport will now be a mascot for cricket?” She added, “What happened to Pakistani actresses by the way? Did they all disappear that we have to get foreign ones? Whatever is left of our industry will die if you keep paying Turkish actors for jobs Pakistani actors can do!”
Sharmeen Obaid added that if you continue to pay jobs to Turkish actors in the same way, whatever is left in our film industry will sink.
