ISLAMABAD: Senators from opposition parties lashed out at the government over wheat flour shortages and riding prices of the essential commodities in the country.
Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani chaired the senate session. Opposition leader in Senate Raja Zafar-ul-Haq raised the ongoing wheat and flour issue and demanded an immediate debate on the matter.
Addressing the Senate, PML-N Senator Pervaiz Rasheed criticized the government for exporting more than 0.6 million tons of wheat.
Senator Siraj-ul-Haq said that Pakistan is an agricultural country and the eight-largest country to produce wheat in the world, despite this; the people are suffering from the shortage of wheat.
He further said, “The world is making fun of us, saying that people have reached the moon and in Pakistan, people are waiting in lines for a bag of wheat.”
Senator Muzaffar Shah demanded an immediate investigation to reveal culprits behind the flour crises.
Government senator, Mohsin Aziz while responding to the criticism claimed that situation will be improved in the next two or three days.
For answering the opposition questions, Chairman Senate summoned Minister for food security tomorrow.
