Movie theaters are enjoying a high ride as the world is currently witnessing an epic box office battle between the newly released Barbie and Oppenheimer.
Released on the same date, the movies have totally different genres with unique scripts, concepts, and star-studded cast. On one hand, Christopher Nolan’s movie witnessed better ratings, on another hand, Greta Gerwig’s pink-themed film grossed a whopping amount with its previews.
Barbie stars Margot Robbie, Ryan Reynolds, Simu Liu, Emma Mackie, Will Ferrell and more. The movie shows a unique connection between plastic and the real world and Barbie’s adventures along with Ken.
On the other hand, Oppenheimer is a biographical thriller based on the life of theoretical physicist J Robert Oppenheimer. The movie has Cillian Murphy playing the lead role along with Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr, Matt Damon, and Florence Pugh.

As per Deadline, Barbie opened with a whopping $22.3 million in the US. The movie’s collected cash also includes the $1.1 million from the Wednesday previews set at 500 locations. This means that Barbie’s sole collection from Thursday previews booked at 3400 locations is still $21.2 million, the best in the year.
On the other hand, Oppenheimer’s preview shows brought Universal a whopping collection of $10.5 million at 3150 theatres.
International regions
Looking at regions, Barbie had the biggest opening day of all time for a WB film in 13 Latin America markets, and was the biggest industry opening day ever in Argentina ($1.2M) and Colombia ($1.5M). It was also the biggest industry opening day of 2023 regionally and in eight markets.

As regards Christopher Nolan’s epic Oppenheimer, yesterday added 47 offshore markets. The Cillian Murphy-starrer will be out in a total of 78 through today. The movie has now logged its biggest opening day in 23 markets including Saudi Arabia and the UAE as well as the Middle East as a whole, Netherlands and Colombia.
Also, Oppenheimer, which was filmed with IMAX cameras, captured the best opening day ever for the format in Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Czech Republic, Egypt, Bahrain, Oman, Argentina, Mexico, and Chile.
