KARACHI: Clifton Cantonment Board (CBC) and the district administration along with the police have initiated an operation against illegal buildings in Delhi Colony area of the metropolis on Tuesday.
On orders of the Supreme Court, the authorities started an operation against a 12-story building consist of 24 flats and four shops in Delhi Colony.
According to the authorities, the building has been evacuated and will be bulldozed within 24 hours.
However, officials are facing difficulties because of the slender lanes adjacent to the building, a Clifton Cantonment Board official said. He further said the front and back roads, as well as exit and entry points leading to the building, have been sealed.
On the other hand residents of the building have complained that the Sindh government promised to give them better alternative places, adding the officials never fulfilled their promise.
Earlier, The Supreme Court issued directives all illegal structures within the jurisdiction of Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC) in Karachi to be demolished instantly.
A three-member bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice Pakistan Justice Gulzar Ahmed, heard the case against building violations in CBC-controlled areas of the metropolis.
Authorities from the Cantonment Board Clifton and the Attorney General of Pakistan Anwar Mansoor Khan were present in the courtroom.
