TOKYO: North Korea has carried out another test-launch, firing what appears to be two ballistic missile, the Japan Coast Guard and the South Korean military said on Sunday.
Detailed specifications, such as the speed and altitude of the missile, are currently being investigated.
The ballistic missile launch is seen as a backlash against the United Nations’ adoption of a resolution on North Korean human rights for the 18th consecutive year and Japan’s adoption of a security strategy to secure the ability to counterattack the enemy base, according to reports quoting experts.
The latest provocation by North Korea is the first in 12 days following multiple rocket launchers on Dec. 6. It also came about a month after it launched the Hwasong-17, an intercontinental ballistic missile, from the Sunan area of Pyongyang toward the east sea on Nov. 18.
On Dec. 6, North Korea fired around 100 artillery shells toward the inter-Korean maritime buffer zone in a tit-for-tat action against South Korea and US live-fire drills staged near the border.
North Korea fired 62 ballistic missiles 36 times this year and three cruise missiles.
